How we handle what you tell us.

This is the notice the consent box on the application form refers to. It covers the casting application only.

Who is collecting this.

Your application is collected by ShotPro Pty Ltd (ABN 76 674 449 944) (“we”, “us”), the production company making the documentary series Project You.

If you want to talk to a person about your information, email casting@shotpro.com.au.

What we collect.

Through the application form:

Who you are

Name, age, email address, phone number, postcode and the city closest to you.

Your story

What you want to change, what is coming up for you, who you would want there, why now, what has got in the way, who is at home, your work situation, your availability, and anything else you choose to tell us.

Health information

Only if you choose to tell us. See the section below.

Background information

Whether there is anything in your past a background check would turn up, and anything you choose to add about it. See the section below.

Video and photo

Your self-tape and your photo, if you upload them. Both are optional.

How you found us

Which ad or link brought you here, and what you tell us in that field.

You do not have to answer every question. Most of the form is optional and leaving something blank will not rule you out. If you leave out your contact details we cannot get back to you.

Health information, specifically.

The form asks whether there is anything about your health we should know before we speak. Anything you write there is sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which is a higher category than the rest.

We only collect it because you consented by ticking the box and choosing to write it. We use it for one thing: understanding what supporting you would actually involve, and making sure taking part would not be bad for you. It is not used to judge your story.

You can leave it blank. It is not a required field.

Background information, specifically.

The form asks whether there is anything in your past a background check would turn up. Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), a criminal record is sensitive information in exactly the same way health information is — they are two separate limbs of the same legal definition, and we treat them the same way.

We only collect it because you consented by ticking the box and choosing to write it. Saying yes does not rule you out on its own — we use it to have an honest conversation with you if we reach that stage, not to screen you out automatically.

You can leave it blank. It is not a required field.

Why we collect it.

To cast the series. That means reading your application, deciding whether to contact you, talking to you if we do, and — if you are cast — planning the filming around your life.

We also look at which ads brought people in, so we know where to keep looking. That is counted in aggregate; nobody is profiled.

We will not use your application to sell you anything, and we will not give or sell it to anyone for marketing.

Who sees it.

The casting team and the production team working on this series. Access is restricted to named people.

It may also be seen by:

  • The registered psychologist who runs the wellbeing screening, if you reach that stage.
  • A broadcaster, if we confirm one for the series — we haven’t yet. If that happens, it would only be for shortlisted applicants, and we will say so here before it does.
  • The technology providers who store the data on our behalf and run this site — Supabase (database and file storage), and Vercel and Netlify (hosting) — none of whom use it for anything of their own.
  • Anyone we are required to disclose it to by law.

Where it is stored.

In a private database and private file storage run by Supabase, and on hosting run by Vercel and Netlify. None of it is publicly readable. Your video and photo are never given a public address — they can only be opened through a short-lived link generated for a signed-in member of the casting team.

We haven’t yet confirmed exactly which country these providers hold your information in day to day. All three are large international services, so it may be held outside Australia. If you want to know before applying, email casting@shotpro.com.au and we’ll find out for you.

How long we keep it.

Applications from people we do not cast are kept for 12 months after casting closes, then deleted, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

If you are cast, your information is kept for as long as we need it for the production and for whatever we are legally required to keep afterwards.

Changing your mind.

You can withdraw at any time, for any reason, without giving one. Email casting@shotpro.com.au and we will delete your application, your video and your photo.

You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Same address. We will respond within a reasonable time and we will not charge you for asking.

If you are not happy with how we handled it.

Tell us first — casting@shotpro.com.au. We will look into it and write back within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or by phone on 1300 363 992.

If this notice changes.

We will update this page. The version you agreed to is the one that was here when you applied, and we will not use your information for something new without asking you first.
